Flax is known for her lovely flaxen tresses - er, feathers, we mean! ;-) Flax is a shimmering petite beauty now, but when she was first rescued, we weren’t even sure she would survive. Flax was suffering from a severe respiratory infection when she was found, which had clearly been long untreated and sadly may have been the reason she was abandoned by her original home instead of being given medical care. Sadly, most domestic pigeons raised for cruel “dove release” or pigeon racing are valued only for profit, and are either cast aside or killed rather than receiving even basic treatment. Fortunately for Flax, she was found, brought to GLPR, and rushed into intensive care where she received supplemental oxygen, nebulizer treatments, and antibiotics. Flax is vivacious and strong, and Flax wanted to live! She amazed us all with her speedy recovery! Now, Flax is a whole new bird! She is equally at home swooping across a living room or aviary, and she loves to perch proudly atop the furniture for everyone to admire her cuteness. After all she has overcome, Flax deserves nothing less than to continue her new life triumphantly in an adoring foster or forever home!
