My Story

Bagel is a Domestic Short Hair (DSH)-mix, male, DOB: 4/26/23. Not afraid to say what he thinks in the least, Bagel is quickly growing into a chatty, handsome, young feline. Expected to grow into a larger cat, he loves to romp and play with his three siblings, but doesn't overwhelm them with his larger size. If it does happen by chance, he is quickly corrected and directs himself to other items of interest, like stuffed mice or feathers on strings. While quick to warm up and enjoy affection, Bagel can be hesitant when presented with unfamiliar situations, but his friendly, inquisitive nature makes it impossible for him to play coy for long. Definitely liking attention, he will readily approach people to give and receive affection when he feels comfortable; and with a few soft-spoken words of encouragement he will become quite engaging. He also really enjoys head scratches and revs up an impressive purr motor when the petting begins. Bagel, along with littermates, Pretzel, Strudel, & Biscuit and their mom, Granola, came to Monroe SPCA as strays needing critical care - all 5 cats were covered in fleas, infested with ear mites, dehydrated, and emaciated. They immediately went into an emergency Monroe SPCA foster home, where they began treatment for parasites and finally found some rest and reprieve. Unfortunately soon after rescue, Granola suddenly passed. It was pretty clear she put her everything into keeping her kittens alive, as she was the most emaciated of the group. While with Monroe SPCA the kittens were also treated for URI, Giardia, Coccidia, Tapeworm, and Roundworm. And survive they did - all four cats now happy, healthy, and looking for their forever homes with families who can give them the time and attention a young cats needs. Although Bagel can be adopted individually, we recommend a pairing with several of our other young cats having compatible personalities and temperament. Bagel is best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a calm, low-active to moderately active lifestyle and no active young children under the age of six (6). He is comfortable with other compatible cats and kittens, and he’ll be comfortable in the presence of well-mannered, cat-friendly dogs after being given some adjustment time to warm-up and settle into his new surroundings. As with all Monroe SPCA adoptable animals, a home visit and a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be required prior to adoption. Bagel currently resides at Monroe SPCA’s Adoption Center and Retail Store. You can meet him by appointment with pre-approved adoption application. To start the adoption process, complete and submit Monroe SPCA’s adoption application linked above. All Monroe SPCA cats available for adoption have an adoption fee of $85.00. This fee includes the cat being spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, dewormed, tested for FeLV and FIV, and microchipped with lifelong registration prior to adoption. Completed applications can be emailed to [email protected] or dropped off at Monroe SPCA’s Adoption Center and Retail Store located at 293 W. Monroe Street, Dundee, MI.
