My Story

Beauty ACCT-A-162714 is an 11-year-old spayed female who came to the shelter on 4/24 as an owner surrender due to the owner being hospitalized. Behavior Notes: On 5/13 staff noted: Usually is hiding behind her litterbox (will push her litterbox to the front of the kennel to hide behind it), but it was a quiet day so she was up on her perch. Initially she looked at me with moderately-hard eye contact. She flinched and back up when I threw in some treats, and remained tense with direct eye contact. I gave her a bunch of slow blinks, and eventually she sniffed a treat, then jumped down and slowly made her way back to behind her litterbox. After that she softened, but still didn't engage with treats or toys. On 4/26 staff noted: Went to try and interact with Beauty. Earlier she had growled at staff when staff was interacting with the neighboring cat, so I planned to give her a lot of space. She was curled in her litterbox, giving me hard side eye. No interest in toys when I tried, and did not show any interest in treats either. On 4/25 staff noted: Unable to check in due to behavior. Cat initially displayed handle-able signs, such as allowing pets and to be picked up. When placed on the exam table, she became extremely fearful and ran away. Was hissing and squatting if we attempted to pick her up. However, successfully used a net to catch Beauty. She was panting heavily. Medical Notes: On 4/25 during a vet exam staff noted: "mild to moderate dental calculus and gingivitis. Mild to moderate dental disease. Mild hyperglobulinemia: r/o secondary to dental disease vs. other." Beauty was noted to be bright, alert, responsive, fearful/flighty but allowed all handling. On 4/25 during an intake exam staff noted: Beauty had gingivitis but was otherwise in good general health. She was noted to be quiet, alert, responsive and skittish.
