My Story

Berry was rescued by the Humane Society of Imperial County after giving birth to four kittens in the back of a utility truck, and she was quickly placed into a foster home. Mama Berry was very much used to living on the street and fending for herself. In her foster home, she really came around and showed herself to be incredibly sweet. She absolutely loves to be brushed and have her chin scratched, and she leans into scratches (all 7 pounds of her!). She head-butts foster mom for attention, but is very polite and respectful if you are busy - then she will happily lounge on her cat tree and sunbathe. She is low maintenance, quiet, and unassuming. She's one of those cats where it may take weeks or months to warm up 100% so patience is key! She has slowly learned to play with toys, and watching her become a "house cat" is so heartwarming! Berry was adopted into a home with Sandy for 15 months but was sadly returned after veterinary issues developed. It is suspected that Berry has Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease, as she had blood in her urine and the pain caused her to urinate outside the litter box. The good news is that FLUTD flare ups are rare and can be mitigated with the use of a prescription diet, low stress environment, use of stress relievers like Feliway, and having multiple litter box options. We don't know for certain if this was a one-time issue that is fully resolved or if this will happen again in the future, so her adopter will have to have a keen eye to keep her healthy and happy. Berry quickly adapted to her foster home and has been using the litter box perfectly in foster. She also was given a full exam by the vet and was deemed healthy, although the prescription food is highly recommended to be continued. Once back in her foster home, she immediately settled in and began accepting pets right away. Even though she is happy and comfortable in her foster home, she would love nothing more than a permanent calm and stable home where she can relax!
