My Story

Buddy’s owners moved and left him behind. He was trapped and neutered through local TNR efforts, but Buddy demonstrated that he was far too friendly to be returned to the wild. For his first few weeks in his HART foster home, he hid all day, only coming out at night to use the litter box, eat and drink. With time and patience, he began to tolerate his foster mom’s presence and light petting on his head About three weeks later, after testing negative for FIV/FeLV, Buddy graduated to full roam of his foster home, and he is becoming more comfortable. He met his foster siblings and didn’t seem fazed by their fearful reaction to him. He continues to explore and has discovered that a cat tunnel makes a wonderful resting spot. In fact, his foster mom notes that he’s the most relaxed she’s seen him in his time with her. “I’m certain he will continue to come around and become a wonderful addition to someone’s family,” Buddy’s foster mom says. We initially thought Buddy would do best as an only cat, but he’s befriended two of his fellow foster cats — Mama Ivy and Baby Simba (who does not yet have a Petfinder bio), who will be available in the coming weeks. We now think Buddy would do OK in a home with other kitties who are nondominant and tolerant — complementary to Buddy’s leadership tendencies. Specifically, we think he’d do wonderfully if he were adopted along with his new BFFs. Buddy is ready to adopt today, but he would be willing to hang out in his foster house a bit longer if it means he and his friends can all move into the same forever home together. Mama Ivy is due to be spayed soon. Simba is taking care of some the important cat business to make him adoption-ready. The adoption date for all three together depends on Simba’s go-date. *** IF ADOPTED TOGETHER, BUDDY & CO. ARE SPONSORED *** If there’s someone out there who wants to adopt this trio, a generous guardian angel has offered to pay the special adoption fee. Their future family will need to fill out the adoption application, go through the vetting process, and be approved — so we can ensure that they go to a safe and loving home — but their sponsor is generously picking up the tab. We'd recommend a meet-and-greet with an adopter who has other pets to make sure Buddy is a good fit. We think he’d do best in a quieter home; a louder environment with small children may lengthen the period it takes for him to feel comfortable. He is looking forward to finding a forever family who will allow him the time and understanding to adjust to another place — and who will give him a home and love forever. We previously thought Buddy was about 5 years old, but upon further veterinary consultation, we think he is 2 or 3. He is neutered and will be up-to-date on vaccines once he receives another distemper shot.
