My Story

Meet Chai! She’s a dainty, sweet little lady just under a year old who loves sitting with her paws crossed and observing her surroundings. When she’s feeling lovey, petting her cheeks and chin is a certain way to start up her soft, quiet purr. She is still quite shy, but LOVES to play; her feather wand toy really helps her come out of her shell! Once she’s warmed up, she’s a loyal little shadow who follows you around. Chai’s love language is quality time, so just hanging out in the same room with her goes a long way for bonding, and she would LOVE to play with your other cat(s)!! She likes when you talk or sing to her, and she can often be heard trilling around happily asking to play (or for food if it’s time for breakfast or dinner!) And as a bonus, she’s an amazing cricket hunter! Chai is such a sweet girl who would be a wonderful addition to your life, and a great fit with your current fur family. She was rescued from a colony with her littermates/many cats, so she really misses the company of other kitties. Whenever she sees herself in a mirror, she trills and chirps in a very friendly way to greet- and then looks disappointed when she realizes it’s just her own reflection and not a new friend. Chai would be great with older, respectful children, but she does need time and space to warm up. Young kiddos might be too scary for this gentle girl. Treat motivated (loves baby blue kitten crunchies treats) for positive reinforcement Currently in foster care in Los Angeles. Foster-to-adopt is always an available option and recommendation. All Del Gato kitties are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, tested for FIV/FeLv, dewormed, and flea treated prior to adoption. Thank you! ____________________ Del Gato Rescue is a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit cat rescue based in Los Angeles, CA. We are a handful of volunteers who work normal jobs by day and rescue cats on nights & weekends. We receive countless daily requests from the community for assistance with cats and kittens found outside in need of rescue. We focus on rescuing friendly cats from the streets, getting them healthy and vetted in foster care, and finding their purrrfect forever home! We prevent hundreds of cats per year from entering our city shelters and being euthanized. We also TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and vaccinate unadoptable/feral street cats, which we believe is the only solution to the root cause of the feline population crisis. When space allows, we also pull death-row cats from local high kill shelters, work with them in foster care, get them up to date on their healthcare, and match them with their new forever family. If you'd like to volunteer with us, fostering is a great way to help our cause, and it allows us space to save more kitties off the streets. If you are unable to foster, we are also always looking for help with transportation to and from vet appointments. Please send us an email at [email protected] to be a part of our rescue community. Thanks for your support!
