My Story

Hi, my name is Debby. I'm a dilute calico and am now 4 yrs old. I've been with my foster mom for about a year. She would love to adopt me, but she already has 3 other cats of her own in a small apartment and she's trying to be sensible. Also, one of the other cats, who is 13 yrs old and quite cranky, doesn't like me for some unknown reason (I'm so easy going that my foster mom finds it really hard to understand, but all my foster mom's friends say it's jealousy - who knows, it's hard to know what goes on in other cats minds). I get along with everyone else that comes through here. I've even mothered little kittens (I've helped my foster mom out when she's chosen to foster them) and let them suckle me when I have no milk to give. I may be overweight, but I still like to play with the other two friendly permanent cats here when given the opportunity.

As for humans, I love them. I flop on my back and bare my belly to anyone hoping they'll give it a rub. If you pet me, I will lick your fingers. I will happily climb in my fosters mom's lap when she's watching tv and like to sleep next to her in bed. I have also tried to groom her hair which she finds funny for some reason.

Since I have been with my foster mom, I've lost an 3 1/2 lbs which is amazing because 1lb in a cat is equivalent to 15lbs in a human being. I'm still trying to lose weight. I'm 14 1/2 pounds (not as big as some cats, but I'm supposed to be a petite cat). I believe there are only two reasons why I haven't been adopted as yet because I really am such a fabulous cat...if I do say so myself. The first is that I'm still overweight and people don't seem to want an overweight cat. The second is that because I'm overweight I have an anal gland problem. They need to be expressed every month (until I lose more weight). An adopter can learn how to do it or it only costs $12.00 at our vets, but most people don't want to be bothered and so I wait.

Please consider giving me a chance. I'll wear my heart on my sleeve (so to speak) and love you dearly. I would be great in any household (children, dogs...you name it).

If you are a special person looking for a special cat like me, please e-mail: [email protected] and the nice people at Abandoned Cats will arrange for you to meet me.
