You can save animals like Mac by becoming a foster! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save cats before they are euthanized at the shelters, so that they have more time to find a permanent family. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please click here and email the questionnaire to [email protected].
Macaroni (or "Mac") was rescued in May from a high-kill shelter in North Carolina. He was left at the shelter with his buddy Punky Brewster (who is also up for adoption). They could be related but we are sure that they are great buddies! They love to play and have fun together.
It seems pretty clear that Mac didn't get much human attention in his previous home. He began life with his fosters as a shy and nervous buddy. However, he is an absolute sweetheart after a few months of constant love and trust. Mac loves to be petted on the back of his head and always comes when you arrive home. He is still going to need a patient home, as we suspect that a new home will be a challenging thing for him and he may retreat into himself during that time of change.
Mac really loves to play...and this will be the key to winning his heart in his new home. He loves to chase laserpointers and will attack most all toys on a string. Mac enjoys chasing after his treats as well.
He also loves to romp around with his kitty buddies. Ideally, we'd love for him to be in a home with another cat who can show him the ropes.
He does startle with loud noises or quick movements. We think that Mac would be fine with a mellow dog (one who wouldn't chase him or startle him a lot). He has had experience with an outgoing toddler--and he handles her well. However, he is still not quite sure how to act around her and hides when she gets too loud.
Mac is fixed and up to date on his shots. We believe he is about 1.5-2 years old. He is a kind and gentle soul who just needs a little extra love and patience.
