I’m sometimes known as the ‘diva’ of the feline world. I’m a tortoiseshell cat, also known as a ‘tortie.’ Tortoiseshell is not a specific breed, but refers to our distinct patterned coat. Mixed breed and purebred cats can sport the tortoiseshell coat pattern. Did you know that most torties are female? This is the result of chromosomes. We are also known to have a somewhat sassy temperament called “tortitude.” I guess that's how we acquired the diva label. I am a bit shy at first, but then very affectionate. I guess you could say I have a good balance of sweetness and tortitude. Another fun fact: Edgar Allen Poe’s beloved tortoiseshell cat, Catterina, is said to have sat on Poe’s shoulder to watch him write and to have slept on his wife’s chest to keep her warm.
