MAVERICK D.O.B. July 20th, 2020 - Male - Black & Brown Tabby Maine Coon - Medium Hair - Neutered - Microchipped - Dewormed - Fully vaccinated for Rabies, FVRCP, & FeLV. Booster shots are due to be administered week of February 26th, 2024. They are included in the adoption fee at no additional cost at our affiliated vet clinic in Kitchener. Maverick was heartfelt fully surrendered to our rescue due to family stress. His owner was very saddened to let him go, but did so in hoping he would have a better life with another loving forever family. She had him since he was a kitten, and he grew up with her 5.5 year old daughter. Another cat was eventually introduced into the home, but Maverick became dominant towards the new cat since he was already stressed. His owner then found out that she was expecting again last January, and Maverick became even more upset with the situation. The transition has been super difficult on him, and Maverick has started stressfully over-grooming himself, causing himself hair loss which is noticeable on his arms and legs. We were informed that she tried nearly every solution (Feliway, changing diet, cleaning litter box multiple times a day, no scents), but unfortunately nothing seems to be helping his stress so she made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him for his best interest. We were told that Maverick is strictly an indoor cat and always has been for his entire life. (Our Rescue also have a strictly indoor-only policy`` for adoptions.) We were told that Maverick actually does do well with other cats, that he loves the company to play and snuggle with him but he is also very dominant. We have now had the pleasure of getting to know Maverick personally since he arrived at the Rescue on January 24rth, 2024. This is what we have learned about him first hand… zWhen Maverick first arrived at the Rescue he was extremely stressed out and it took a couple days for him to warm up to us. After that grace period, he showed us a whole new side to him that we hadn’t seen before. We thought it was going to take some time and medication to sort out his grumpiness, but we could not have been more surprised by his affection! The vet has provided us with “chill meds” for him but we have not needed them at all. :) He is a large and handsome majestic boy, not at all uncommon to the Maine Coon breed. He is super snuggly, fearless, and absolutely loves bird watching from windows. He is a big sucky boy that loves playing with catnip toys and rolls around on the floor wanting your attention. He’s also a seat stealer! It’s like a game that he plays, immediately grabbing your warm seat without you even realizing he’s done so as he comes out of nowhere! :) We have also introduced Maverick to other cats and he does very well with them. He minds his own business and walks by them without reaction. At the moment, he’s not a fan of cats that want to play with him as he tends to run off and hide from what he thinks is menacing to him. So far, he just wants to be at our side, even curling up on our desktop as we type this bio for him. He reaches up for pets and adores being spoken to affectionately. He sprawls out taking up as much space possible while purring away and relax-fully slow blinks in content. Maverick is also amazed by aquariums! He is extremely interested in watching the fish, and he will playfully pounce at the glass until he grows tired and naps next to the tank. It would be fantastic if his new forever home has one for him to enjoy some kitty tv! We must conclude that the children in his previous home must have been the source of Maverick’s discontentment.
