My Story

A look of innocence you say? She could never harm a soul? She would never run away from a blur of claws and tails and yowls with fur clenched tightly in her dainty, little mouth! Well, guess again! Meaning ‘girl’ in German (Mädchen), Maychen dares you to let her size fool you! Just as quickly as she’ll nestle in the crook of your arm, her little head buried in tight, your heart overwhelmed by the surge of Serotonin- she’ll be at the throat of another cat ready to inflict maximum pain on the unassuming creature who made the mistake of playing with the catnip mouse that she was going to play with once she was done being held and swaddled like a baby. Aside from her killer instincts, Maychen is the most precious and affectionate cat you’ll ever have the luck to meet. Purring the moment you pick her up, instantly rubbing her head on your chest or demanding your nose meet hers, Maychen loves humans and wants to be around humans and wants humans to play with her and toss her little catnip-scented plush toys, because if there is anything that Maychen loves as much as humans, it’s plush cat toys (pom-pom balls reigning over all). Maychen would be the purrfect companion for anyone looking to pamper a precious pouncing puffball- so long as she is the only pouncing puffball in the home . Maychen is spayed, up-to-date on her shots, and Heartworm/FeLV/FiV tested! Maychen recently had her left eye removed, as she had suffered from a long ago injury to the eye which resulted in a shrinking of the eye itself, entropion of the eyelid, and chronic infections and consequent pain . The vet believes Maychen’s eye injury was likely due to/made worse by recurring Feline Herpesvirus infections, and her right eye sometimes has discharge associated with such (flare ups are so much more likely in a shelter setting!), but it has remained clear with the help of a lubricating Hyaluronic Acid gel that she receives twice a day- and is an angel for! After her left eye was removed it was biopsied, and everything came back clear! Yay!!!!! Maychen is also prone to mammary growths that need to be checked with a vet as they appear. The few that she has had removed while at the shelter have all come back as benign growths, but you can never be too careful!
