My Story

For all of you Shrek fans out there, you will totally get why I named this tiny-eared girl Princess Fiona (even though she isn't green:) She came to us in late May 2023, from a Sparta barn owned by Kelly D. who had noticed her hanging around since the beginning of April. She took this 2-1/2-year-old girl into her vet's office for initial medical care with the hopes of keeping her and making her a housecat, however her attitude towards the other felines in the home left a lot to be desired. And given the fact that our princess tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), Kelly didn't want to risk it. She is an extremely friendly girl who had to have been a pet at one point in her life, as she loves to cuddle, and seems at ease with the dogs she interacted with. She was NOT a fan of our resident kitties at Feline Wellness Center merely sauntering by her cage to check out the newbie, but once I scooped her up and nuzzled her close (out of eyesight of the boys), she relaxed. Given her evenly shortened ears, I can state that she most likely lost those furry tips due to frostbite--so sad. She was a healthy 11# upon arrival thanks to Kelly's Kitchen, even though she had two types of internal parasites. I can tell how much she has acclimated to her new indoor surroundings, as when she came out for her recheck a month after her first visit, she had gained another whole pound! She is a big girl, with a sturdy frame, so those ears that appear too small for her bodacious body make her stand out from the crowd. She reminded me so much of us of our grumpy past residents, Oona, as she possessed many of her physical attributes and characteristics. Thankfully SHE acclimated well over time and proved to be less sassy:) "She doesn't mind being picked up, loves attention, and is becoming more interested in the toys, especially the mouse that pops out of the cheese wedge. I wouldn't call her aggressive towards others, just more opinionated and demanding her own space; respect the bubble, guys!) Princess Fiona can be a bit aloof at times, but once you start petting her (if you don't reach straight for her pretty face) she changes her mind pretty quickly and eats up the love - tis good to feed the soul). She can be a bit head shy, which is understandable given her run in with winter weather that took her pinnae tops. Not fully knowing what she's been through in her lifetime just makes me want to find her the perfect family even more. She may do best as an only cat, or with one other that also likes to have their own area to call their own. Oh, she is also a BIG bird watcher, so if I'm looking for her, I check the windows first!" It has been wonderful watching Fi become comfortable enough in her new environment to strut her stuff and let everyone know that she is bold, she is fearless, and she is ready to put on her 'adoption-self' and find herself a swamp of her own--watch the movie people, you won't be disappointed!
