My Story

8/1/09: Abby is a sweetheart of a dog! Her coat is absolutely soft and silky and she looks wonderful. Abby loves Ingrid does well with most other dogs. Her urinary symptoms are well under control and most nights has no issues.

7-2-09 Abby is a great dog- so mellow and easy going. An update from her foster mom's family..."Abby's incontinence appears to be a thing of the past. She takes proin morning and night and sleeps like a log all night with no accidents now. We had to fiddle with her proin schedule but is now working great. Mom reported that there has been no leaking for weeks. Initially when she came, she had leaks... but I think her meds were not quite right. The late night potty run is between 8:30 and 9 pm every night. Then she goes to bed and sleeps 10 to 12 hours. I am not kidding! Mom is up BEFORE Abby.... as Abby likes to sleep in. This is one funny dog. We love her dearly but a good home is always a priority." Abby gets along with veryone and loves all she meets! 4-7-09 Updated Photos. 3-25-09 Abby is a sweetheart... a very special dog to be sure. She has bonded very quickly with her foster mom. Abby loves to ride in a car and is ready to go whenever you are. So far, she has been grocery shopping, to the dentist and visiting friends. She snoozes peacefully in the car along the way or gazes out the window... just happy to be along for the ride. Abby would do great in a home with other dogs as she adores playing. For a "senior" dog, she has a very playful side to her. If she thinks it is playtime, she does a "happy dance" and is ready to play, play, play! Abby loves to be with people and would do best where she is not left "home alone" for long periods of time. She truly is a people oriented dog and loves to be around her person even if she is just snoozing in the corner.
Abby's leg has obviously been broken (and not healed correctly) but that does not hinder her from taking long walks and enjoying life. [She walks very well on leash, by the way.]

Abby's gentle nature is very apparent from the first meeting. She snuggles up to you for a head rub and enjoys "leaning in" for a good scratch. Abby has beautiful brown eyes that just speak for her... and some lucky person will be getting a loyal, loving pet when they adopt Abby. 3-22-09 Abby is here and she is beautiful! Smaller than we thought and just so mellow and sweet. Abby's foster mom is thrilled with how she is doing; stay tuned for more info and pictures as they get to know her.

1/5/09 Abby is through with her heartworm treatment and needs someone to step up as a foster or adopter. She has a lot of life to live now that she is healthy!

9/10/08 - Abby has gone to a foster home where she will be able to undergo heartworm treatement. Thank you Cissy for helping this sweet girl. 9/6/08 - Abby has some doggie angels who have stepped up to cover her heartworm treatment! Yey! She has gone to a foster home as well and will be beginning treatment soon. Now all this sweet girl needs is a retirement home. Can you help? 7/23/08: Meet sweet Abby. This poor girl was surrendered by her owner on 7/18/08. She is apparently about 8 years old. Her previous owner reports that she is housebroken, however she does have some accidents (urinates) while sleeping at times. This is a common problem with older spayed females - which can be controlled with inexpensive medication (PROIN). Abby is great with kids, cats, and other dogs. She has an old injury to her left front leg (broken in the past). As a result, her nails grow significantly faster on that foot. Abby doesn't understand why she was in a home one day and a shelter the next (on the hard concrete floor we might add). Please consider fostering her until we can find her a suitable home. Like most of our sweet pups, Abby too has tested positive for heartworms. She will need sponsorship funding to help pay for her treatment as well as a foster home. Please hurry because the shelter is full..

All of our dogs are in partner shelters in the South unless marked "In New England" or "In Maine".
