My Story

Little Beaker finds his inspiration by being around other pooches. He loves to play with toys, and has lived with little kids and loves them! He was a little shy at first, but he quickly came out of his shell and has become a loving little guy in a loving little family! Unfortunately, the family's situation has changed and little Beaker (who is now named Pappy) is back up for adoption. The following is what his home has to say about the little guy. Pappy is a high spirited dog from early morning until the sun down. He has been crate trained...so he is comfortable being left in his crate for a short while when we are out grocery shopping etc...We have been letting him loose in the house but restricting him to the kitchen. So far so good! He seems to enjoy the freedom. The crate training has contributed to excellent bathroom habits outside. He might be small, but he can hold it. You will notice him staring at you for pee time. We practiced crate training in the evening for our bedtime routine but Pappy would much rather curl up at the foot of our bed, big time. He occasionally cries if he is crated for bedtime: at night and early in the morning. He doesn t take up much room in the bed so I d go with that one... he s just a peanut. Pappy needs exercise EVERY DAY. He may be small but his cardio levels are incredible and inspirational. He drops jaws at the dog park with his speed. Not a day goes by at the dog park that someone doesn t ask me what is that dog? Each day I would take him to the dog park for an hour and in the evening he would play with the big dogs on our block for a good 45 minutes. PAPPY LOVES BIG DOGS. He plays hard and when you watch him you may be concerned because he s so petite but he can keep up and usually wears the big dogs out: from St. Bernards to Terriers. Pappy has spent full days with my toddler and I. He is very comfortable with kids...the screaming, the crying, the pulling, the tugging... nothing fazes him as he has been exposed to everything a toddler can dish out. Doorbells don t get him going either which is a bonus. Pappy is a chewer. He hasn t grown out of it YET so make sure he has a good supply of nylabones (medium strength which he will chew down to nothing) and rawhides. I always kept things out of his reach like shoes and toddler toys and redirected him if was going for a flip flop. It made for a very clean house! He loves his tiny tennis balls and can play a good game of fetch while you re watching a movie. I don t let him jump up at the dinner table but he keeps trying so just remind him down but tuck in your chairs if you leave food out, he is an acrobat. Pappy would be best suited to a house with another dog that would keep him busy and would have patience for his little brother, play with me! ways. He needs a fenced in backyard. This is a must because sometimes you might just have to let him out to run laps....and he will. Since we didn t have the fenced in backyard I found my treadmill worked wonders to burn off some steam on a rainy day. He s great on the treadmill with supervision of course. He has a passion for socks. He will not chew holes in them but he will carry them around the house. I guess it s the closest he can get to us, our stinky feet. I never curbed this, the socks weren t harmed and no one was hurt. He is a quick learner. He has learned sit, shake a paw, sit up, come....and the latest: jumping over my leg when it s extended at 90 degrees (old ballet trick) He also loves the car. His favourite spot is sitting in the car seat whether my son is in it or not, that way he can see everything going by. He also loves the curl up on your lap or sit at your feet if you re at the sink doing dishes. He loves people. PAPPY HAS WONDERFUL GIFTS and if you can put in the time his gifts will overflow into your family. Beaker is from a puppy mill bust. He was left in limbo for a while. If you are interested in contributing to the little guy's welfare, or any of our puppy mill dog survivors, please contact us for more information on how to donate. We do our best to help out as much as we can when a puppy mill bust occurs and can only do so with your support. So thank you to all of our supporters who help get dogs like Beaker into safe and loving homes! Please visit our website at www.bulliesinneed.ca
