This dog's start in life has not been good - she was found at the bottom of a sewer - yes, that's right - in tough shape, beat up and whimpering. She has now become a gorgeous, loving animal who wants nothing more than a family of her own.
Bethany arrived to New England in January of this year and has been in foster care and an adoptive home since that time - she is a very, very sweet dog - her adoptive mom cannot keep her as she works all day and Bethany has let us know she is a "people dog" and doesn't want to be alone. Instead of loading her up with medication and training her to like being alone, we've all decided that she deserves a home where someone is home most of the time so she doesn't have to worry.
Bethany loves walking on a leash outdoors; exploring new places is always exciting for her. She is a very calm dog in the house when someone is home w/ her; she prefers to be by your side or resting on her dog bed knowing that you are around. The doctor says that she does have some separation anxiety, possibly because of what has happened to her and we would love to find her a home where she won’t be left alone for too long. She's a real snuggle-bug watching TV or in your bed (if you let her). Kisses are abundant from this dog. She is learning to sit and wait by the door before walks and at crosswalks as working on basic commands.
Bethany is still a very timid girl who needs a home environment filled with tremendous love and affection; her spirit is something that you can not help feel inspired by. In the short time she has been here, she has shown herself to just thrive in a home with love.
Bethany must be an only dog-she can not go to a home with other dogs or cats. After all she has been through, we believe that she just doesn't like to share the love and attention she was robbed of for so long - we can't blame her for wanting it all to herself!
Bethany is perfectly housetrained and will not jump when people come in the house. Her house manners are great- she is not a counter surfer and has a medium activity level.
Bethany is wonderful with children - the more attention they give her, the more she loves it - she'd also do well in a home with an older retired couple or a family who is home a lot and will include her in activities or just do nothing with her, hang out at the house being a family!
Bethany is approx 2 years of age and weighs 55 lbs. She is spayed, fully vaccinated, and heartworm negative.
