My Story

Update 4/25/09: Hi, everybody, it's, me, Brandy again. I've been in my foster home for two weeks now and I'm very comfortable. I'm all terrier and full of myself. I love to play with toys. I absolutely love to be outside in the yard or on a walk. I love being outside so much that I sit at the door and whine to see if I convince anyone to take me out.

My foster family is delighted that I am still accident free. My foster mom says I now need leash work because I have discovered how to pull. Those squirrels are just too much. You never know when you might see or smell one.

My foster mom also says that I need a very secure fence, or to be on a leash at all times, as I am extremely interested in small critters and because I'm small so I can squeeze myself into small places.

My foster mom says I have a wonderful personality and I am good with everyone I've met. It's been a very busy week in my household as it is spring break. I have been with kids from ages 3 to 9 off and on all week and have done fantastic. I still love those belly rubs and the kids seem happy to give them to me!

I have been to the dogwash to get my nails cut, and to the pet supply store, where I played with a Jack Russell. I love to play with small dogs but I'm not so sure about big ones.

I think that's all my news for today. I just wanted to let you know I'm still looking for my forever home. I hope you'll notice me!

Update 4/13/09: Hi everyone! I'm Brandy the Rat Terrier and I just wanted to let you know that I have arrived in Maine and I'm having a great time in my new foster home. I'm 22 pounds and quite the lovebug. I love to cuddle and give kisses. I'm especially fond of the eight year old boy I live with. I keep track of his every move and my favorite spot so far is cuddled in his lap. He gives the best belly rubs.

I am proud to say that I have had no accidents in the house so far. I am crate trained and walk very nicely on a leash. I do love those walks. There's lots to see. I'm slightly nervous on the walks because of the cars but my foster mom says with time it won't even be an issue.

I'd also like you to know that I'm extremely quiet. My foster says that I have not made a peep yet, which she tells me is unusual for a small dog. I'm just not that interested in whining or barking. I am full of spunk, though and have already figured out how to get the squeaker out of one of my toys.

My foster family adores me and says someone is missing out on a fantastic dog. I tend to agree. You should also know that I have been getting along well with my foster family's resident dog. I love my foster home but I'd lke to find my forever family soon!

Notes from our partner shelter: Brandy is approximately 2 yrs old in these pictures taken February 14, 2009. She was found by a man who works at the NW AR Regional Airport in November 2008. He and his wife agreed to foster Brandy until LP could place her. When she was taken in to get spayed, we found out that she was too far along in her pregnancy to have it terminated.

Brandy gave birth to 10 pups on December 26, 2008.

Brandy is very loving, cuddly, and quiet. She is very well behaved and is housebroken but does have an accident once in awhile. Brandy loves to ride in the car, gets along with the cats, and is good on a leash. We do not know which she loves more, riding in the car or sitting on your lap.

Brandy does get nervous when there is a lot going on. We took her to an adoption event at Camp Bow Wow and she was very nervous because of the noise, lots of people, and many other dogs running around. While she seems to do fine with children of all ages, we believe that she would do best in a home with a couple or a family with teen children since she is so nervous with lots of commotion and loud noises.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $300 for dogs up to 6 months of age, $250 for dogs 7 months-5 years, and $200 for dogs 5 years and older. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, and transport from Arkansas to Maine on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to leaving Arkansas. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption.
