My Story

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION IN THE DOG'S PROFILE, AS WELL AS THE INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE BEFORE EMAILING US WITH QUESTIONS. Our Volunteers use up valuable time answering questions, when the answers are readily available on our website. Our adoptions come with 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org. We are a foster-based rescue. We do not have a facility. MEET & GREETS FOR DOGS IN ONTARIO WILL ONLY BE ARRANGED ONCE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION IS APPROVED. THANK YOU!!! Please visit our website for more information: https://www.niagaradogrescue.com/ or fill in our adoption application: https://niagaradogrescue.com/adoption-application.php OUT-OF-TOWN Dogs with NDR refer to dogs we have saved that have yet to make their journey to Ontario. These dogs are currently in our care with the help of our partners in the area. These dogs will all travel to the Niagara Region once an appropriate adopter or local foster is found. This dog is currently located in: North Carolina Name: Cain (20240524-01) Weight: 90lbs Age: 2 years Gender: male Spayed/Neutered: yes Breed: mastiff mix Colour: tan/red Neck size (for collar): 19.5” Height (from top of head): 34” Length (from nose to base of tail): 40” Crate size recommended: XL Good with women: Yes Good with men: Yes Good with kids: Yes, older kids preferred as he is over enthusiastic but a total love bug Good with other dogs: Yes Good with cats: Yes, untested with cats, based on lack of response with guineas but I will test House trained: Yes Crate trained: Yes Energy level: Medium-high but will level out with more exercise Can be handled/touched: Yes Barker: No Flight risk: No Food aggressive: No Current food: Diamond and pedigree mix Walks on leash: Yes, some pulling but not what you’d expect. Leash reactive to people or dogs: No Rides well in car: Yes Destructive: No Needs a home with a yard: Yes, unless you’re really active Needs a home with another dog: No, but he does like them Can live in an apartment: No, not recommended Additional Info: Cain came into rescue with the unfortunate name of Scar and a splotchy coat caused by mange that quickly responded to antibiotics. He was surprisingly fearful of me at first - I’m intimidating on purpose to manage them. We don’t know what he’d been through. A couple of days, and one destroyed crate later, he decided I was trustworthy. He can definitely escape a crate if he really really wants to! Ever since he's gotten over his fear, there’s been no going back. He is the biggest love bunny ever. Once he settled he’s never met a stranger. That includes his four-legged roommates. He is full of energy and enthusiasm for loving and playing. He is pretty darn good on a leash and sits for treats. He’s also consented to staying crated, although he requires a treat to enter it and trying to force him in is quite the battle. Despite his size he is the sweetest thing and I’m sure he’d love cuddling on a sofa — probably dreams of it. He has come so far from a pitiful sick boy to a healthy, exuberant fellow.
