My Story

Name: Chihiro (pronounced chee-HEER-oh) Nicknames: Chi-Chi Age: 14 months (born on May 4th 2023) Activity level: High energy. I'm a big puppy with big puppy energy. But I also love a good snuggle and snooze after my mind and body are tired. Things I do in my free time: Chew on bones, I love them! They are the absolute best! I also think I'm a watch dog and will stare out the window and watch the world go by. I love going outside and playing with my foster family. They have so many toys, but a ball is my favorite. I'm slowing getting the hang of "fetch" Things I know: My name, sit, and "kennel" Things I'm currently working on: Walking nicely on a leash, and not barking at people or other dogs while I'm in my yard. I can be skittish when meeting new people, so I'm still learning that people just want to love me. Just a heads up when you meet me, I usually do better when I am not in my own yard. When I am in my yard, I tend to be standoffish and possibly bark. But, when I am out on the town, I am more eager to meet people... especially if you have a dog with you. Who I currently live with: Two adult humans, two cats and a dog. How I do with kids: Unknown at this time, as I do not currently live with children. But kids I have met on walks, I love! I can be a little too excited and jump right away. But with a little redirection, I calm down. How I do with dogs: Everyone is my friend! I love my foster dog brother and have gotten along great with other dogs I've met outside my home. How I do with cats: I'm very curious about my cat foster brothers, but they don't seem to want to be friends with me. I do have a high prey drive, so it may be best if I'm in a home with no cats. My current size: 40lbs How I do in my kennel: I LOVE my kennel. That is my safe space. I will go in and out while my foster parents are home and don't make a peep while they are away or when it's time for bed. How I do in car rides: I haven't been on too many, but my previous owner said I can get car sick from time to time. I can settle in to longer trips, and as long as there isn't too much stop-and-go traffic, I do okay. Am I house trained: Yes! My foster family keeps me on a good routine, and I will stand by the door if I need to go out otherwise. Additional info from foster: Chi Chi is such a spunky girl with a lot of energy! When she first came to us, she had a hard time adjusting and was very fearful. She will need a very calm and patient household to welcome her, as she is still a skittish dog. Any loud/sudden noises or movement can scare her. But once she trusts you, she's easily redirected. We feel that she would do best in a household with a younger dog playmate. She looks to our resident dog for guidance, but he doesn't really want to play with her, which she craves so much! Chi Chi will need someone who is willing to put in the time for training, as she is still very young. But she has been a fast learner since we've had her. She would be a great agility dog or running partner. Once she has settled in to her new home, she will be your best friend!
