My Story

CONTACT: For information about this spunky little guy, please contact his foster mom Eunah at (530) 304-6796 or [email protected]. -------------------------------------------------------------- Chuckles is a sensitive boy who is seeking love and security. He may act all tough (all 12 lbs of him) but he's just trying to stand up for himself after a rough life. We don't know much about his backstory but he was found stray with a mangled tail that needed amputation. He was adopted twice from the county shelter he was pulled from but was returned both times with notes that he had separation anxiety, was skittish, and would nip (not breaking skin). Fortunately, Scooter's was able to pull Chuckles from the shelter before his scheduled euthanasia date and place him with a foster. In his foster home he has been settling in well and learning how to communicate with his foster parents and canine foster sister. With just some patience and respect for his boundaries, Chuckles has already begun opening up and showing off a very fun and playful side. He loves playing fetch with balls and soft toys. He enjoys treats and already knows "sit! Chuckles is fully potty-trained and crate-trained. The first night with his foster family he cried and showed signs of separation anxiety...but by the next day he was going into his crate of his own accord and slept through the night without any issues. He has not shown any signs of separation anxiety since the first night. He is a perfect work-from-home or retirement companion since he is low-maintenance and will just nap all day. He is also easy to walk and doesn't need to go for very long to have his exercise needs met. Chuckles is a very easy dog to have around. His small dog "Napoleon complex is very manageable and as long as his adopter is patient with letting him build up trust, he would make a very sweet companion. He would do best in an adults-only home and would enjoy being the only dog OR living with a calm female dog companion (his foster sister is a very passive small-medium sized dog). He may do well with cats as long as the cat is dog-savvy and confident. The main reason why Chuckles was on the euthanasia list was for his behavior, specifically around his fear nipping. He is not an aggressive dog and only nips when he is trying to communicate a boundary that is being breached. Fortunately he is small and his teeth are pretty dull - it can be startling at first but when you consider things from his perspective, his behavior makes more sense. His adopter just needs to be mindful of his body language and recognize that he only nips if he is worried about something - when his boundaries are being respected, there is never an incident. This special pup is working so hard to be a good boy. He's already made huge strides in a short amount of time and would love the chance to fully blossom in a loving forever home.
