My Story

Meet Coco Carnegie! 15-year-old Coco Carnegie was entrusted to our care through the Final Wish Program after her mom and dad moved into a nursing care facility. Their family describes Coco as a very sweet girl who loves people of all ages and is great with cats and other dogs. During her first week at FFF, Coco let us know that she does not like being in a kennel or crate by barking, crying, and even hurting herself. It's very sad to see how stressful a shelter environment is for her. We want her to feel safe and loved. Thankfully, one of our kennel managers took Coco home with her, and it was a different story! She shares: "Coco is the best dog I have ever had in my car, she's better than my own pups! We got home, and she couldn't care less about the cats, and when she met my other dogs, it was amazing. Coco won't jump on the couch without being told 'Yes', and gives the best kisses. Quiet and peaceful is how I would describe her at home. The most meaningful part was when Coco got on the couch, I covered her in a blanket and the sigh of relief that escaped her little body, broke me. I will be honest - I cried just like when I brought my other dog home. It's the release, the absence of adrenaline, stress, the fear of uncertainty, unexpected noise - all gone. It's like she's been with us forever. She was sleeping almost all night. She got up the first couple of times I had to get up but after that she just slept. She knew I was never far and felt comfortable enough to not follow me everywhere. It is so disheartening how much the shelter life can effect these wonderful dogs. Just give them a chance!" After seeing what a difference being in a home environment made for Coco, our kennel decided to foster her until she is adopted. How wonderful is that?!
