My Story

Meet Desi - a three year old Shepard/Husky mix. Desi came to us after giving birth to a litter of 6 beautiful puppies while she was at the county animal shelter. Desi came to foster care when the puppies were just 2 days old. She was a great mom and was very good about letting people handle her and her puppies as she raised them. Unfortunately, Desi was also heartworm positive, so all of her puppies went on to find homes , but Desi still had a long road in front of her. We are happy to report that Desi made it through heartworm treatment and is now completely healthy. She has been through a lot, but is now ready to find a home of her own. She has also been spayed and is current on all of her vaccines. Desi's breed mix is anyone's guess - she has beautiful black and tan German Shepard markings but when she hears something outside of the fence, she will let out a very Husky like howl to alert her foster mom. Desi is a very sweet, extremely gentle dog. She would do well with children. Desi currently lives in home with other dogs and cats and gets along with everyone she meets. Desi is house broken and crate trained. If you have room in your heart and your home for this special girl, please come to an AARF Adoption Fair to meet her. Fairs are held every Saturday from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. at 311 Harvey St., Winston Salem. Desi's adoption fee is $150.00. Please note that Desi can only be adopted to a one hour radius of Winston-Salem. ****Not sure if you are ready to adopt? Try fostering a homeless dog or puppy! AARF is in need of people who are willing to foster dogs in their homes until the dog can be placed in a permanent home.
