My Story
Diamond is a radiant and playful 2-year-old mixed breed pup eagerly awaiting adoption into her forever family! This vibrant girl is a true gem with boundless energy and a zest for life. Diamond has recently returned to our shelter from a very dedicated and loving foster home where they have learned so much about her personality and preferences. Please see below for their insights.
From Diamond's foster family: Our Time with the Wonder-Dog.
We can't say enough about Diamond. She's the happiest dog we've met and we're so excited for her to find her home. We were lucky to have her in our family, even if it was temporary. She taught us a thing or two - the biggest lesson was finding joy in the little things. Diamond was so happy to see you come home that she had sneezing fits! A favorite treat or toy incited the infamous circle wag (you've gotta meet her to see it!). Her likes and dislikes are a hilarious and charming part of her extraordinary personality.
Likes?
- Kids. Kids kids kids. Loves kids.
- Cucumbers. We can't explain this one.
- Walks. Front clip harness for the ultimate loose-leash experience.
- Her crate. Day or night, door open, it's definitely her cuddly safe place.
- Seeing YOU! She is so happy to hang out.
- Naps. We've never seen a dog so happy to sleep.
- Chew toys. Somehow, they last longer than you think.
- Donut Bed. The perfect size for snuggling.
- Donut shaped toys. Chewy or stuffy, she shows them off.
- Food! She is the biggest foodie in the universe.
- Car rides. Who doesn't like to travel?
- Hanging out in the grass. She'll fall asleep in the park with you.
- Tricks! Sit, down, wait, let's go, crate, touch, shake, come, gentle. Some of her favorite games are "Hand Touch" and "Falling Treat"...we can explain these ones.
- Giving you her all. There's not much more to say.
Dislikes:
- Being too hot. A five minute walk is plenty if it's too warm out.
- Rambunctious dogs. We prefer small, calm, gentle friends, thank you. Maybe even from a distance.
- Water - Maybe a paw or two is okay but that's plenty.
- Bath time....... Well, not really. She'll hang out and be SO GOOD but we don't have the heart to list this one as a favorite!
This is all we can come up with for dislikes. She literally loves everything.
Diamond is the ultimate best friend. She just wants to be around you, but she's amazing at keeping herself busy with toys or her bed if you're not around. She goes into the crate on her own, loves a good chewy in there. She learns SO quickly and is very good at communicating. She might bark at the door once to let you know what's going on but loves people! She loves everyone she meets. We've used a baby gate a few times (house projects, friends with very sensitive allergies, keeping her to a smaller part of the house when we first took her home) - she just hung out, never a problem.
And the most unpredictable thing in the universe - this dog LOVES HER VEGGIES. Goes cuckoo for cucumbers!
We're thankful we were able to give Diamond some decompression time and get her ready and raring for the home life. It'll be the easiest transition in the world. She's so cool.
There are a few things:
- We had her through heartworm treatment and recovery so she'll always need to be on heartworm prevention (like any dog!).
- She does not like dogs her size or bigger - no aggression but she is very clearly not comfortable if they are rowdy. Puppies, small dogs, calm dogs of all sizes work out okay and she's made some friends. There's plenty of room to work on this with her, but it would take time to build up her confidence with other dogs.
- She loves kids, but we are careful she does not jump up on little ones.
- She loves squirrels, rabbits, and cats - maybe too much, so probably don't want small pets.
- Loose leash walking is her superpower, but works best on a front clip harness.
Please see the incredible team at the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare in Aiken, SC for more information and details on adoption for this amazing gal and all the other wonderful pets looking for loving homes! We love this goof and hope you will too.
