My Story
Any breed mixed with a bassett hound makes for a darling dog, and Wheaten terrier is no exception! Then when you throw in the bulldog underbite, you've got a winner!
Dodger, neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on shots and housebroken, is just a wonderful fellow. He is crate-trained, as well, but he has been such a good boy, his foster mom has even quit crating him.
Dodger is laid-back, gets along famously with other dogs (and they like him, too!) and pays no attention to the cats in his foster home. He likes people but isn’t needy and always wanting attention. He likes to lie in the dog bed and watch what’s going on. About 5 – 7 years old, Dodger may have not been reclaimed by his previous owner because he has some allergies. He wheezed a good bit when he was first rescued, but some Benadryl has put an end to that, and the veterinarian has now put him on potato and venison food to see if that doesn’t alleviate his itchy paws and groin. He loves that food, and we have high hopes that this will give him a more peaceful life. After about three weeks on the food, we think we are seeing a positive change in the inflammation and the licking.
Dodger is starting to notice toys, and he loves to go for walks. He is one of those unusual dogs who could probably stay in a 3-foot-fenced yard and never even dream of trying to go over it, thanks to his bassett body! He will sit in the seat of the car and watch the world go by or curl up and snooze, leaving his destination up to his foster mom.
His foster mom says if she didn’t have too many dogs already, he would be going nowhere, but Dodger does need to have his own forever home, and he is ready to go to it.
