My Story

Meet Floke, the sweetest of pups! This beautiful boy is about 18-months old, coming in at 54 pounds of cuddlebug. Floke is house trained (no accidents since coming to rescue!), crate trained (did great in his kennel even at night, but now happily sleeps at the foot of his foster’s bed), and great with kids! He’s a very good boy. Floke absolutely loves to give hugs. He’s tall but gentle and will jump up to hug you with both paws nuzzling his way between your arm or leg to get optimal closeness. He’s a big fan of PB kongs/treats, snuggles, and running around being his cute self. He also loves sleeping on the floor at the foot of his humans’ bed, fitting for his Indigenous name meaning “guardian of the people”. Floke may be a bit shy and timid as he gets to know new people and his surroundings, but he is full of love and ready to share it with his forever family. He can’t wait to find them! Floke recently came into care having been heavily quilled by a porcupine, causing sores around his head and body, but is already looking his best as he's been healing nicely and doesn't need any additional care. His a healthy boy! Once Floke gains your trust he wants to be your best friend. When he settles into his home and trusts his people, he’ll show you his playful side. He’s a fan of running, prancing and the occasional zoomies. He’s showing more playful energy and building his confidence so will need a home that ensures he gets the exercise every young pup needs! A daily walk or two would be great, but Floke would especially LOVE a fenced yard or other space to run in. He’s not big on toys so regular exercise is a must (e.g., hikes, walks, bike rides, you get the idea). When this boy is feeling playful he’ll let you know and sing his own song, there may be some husky in him with those gorgeous eyes! When he’s tired out, he’ll be sure to snuggle on your lap, he makes an excellent lap dog despite his size! Floke does well with other dogs, just runs slightly timid when first saying hello to new canine friends. He is submissive and will follow their lead. A confident dog may be a great playful companion should it be a good fit. He hasn’t gotten a chance to meet a cat, but could be tested if all else aligns. An initial meet-and-greet would help determine fit. Floke currently lives with teenagers and absolutely LOVES his human foster sister, he follows her everywhere and likes to crawl up and snuggle her. He’s done great with younger kids he’s met as well (5-8). An important thing to know about Floke is he is particularly hesitant of men, and took a bit more time (a few days) to warm up to the teenage boy in his foster home. A home that often has new people/things happening, especially men around, may be a poor fit as he could do well with men but does need a slower intro with men (e.g., getting down on the floor to sit) and requires patience. His foster mom has found with her by their side Floke will allow them to pet him and learns to trust thm. With time and continued confidence building, Floke will flourish. Coming from a less urban environment, Leech Lake, Floke excels most in quiet spaces, he is particularly happy running around especially in wooded areas. He likes walks but can get nervous on sidewalks near lots of cars and heavy foot traffic due to lack of exposure. He benefits from extra reassurance and a slow pace, he'd do exceptionally well in a quieter neighborhood. Due to Floke’s playful vocalization and when you leave its suggested he find in a home without shared walls so he can show off his playful self. He prefers to have his people around more often than not, as you will become part of his pack. Floke is the embodiment of love looking for love in return. With a family that understands all Floke needs a bit of patience and positive reinforcement, he will further blossom into the already amazing family dog he’s shown to be. He’s ready to continue growing and can’t wait to become the best canine family adventure companion he’s meant to be!
