My Story

CONTACT: To meet this amazing little pup, please contactt his foster Amrita at (312) 4984647 or [email protected] --------------------------------------------- This is a sweet luv named Fred! Fred is a year and a half old, male, Terrier mix, weighing about 8 lbs.! Some stories of our dogs that come to the shelter really touch your heart more than most. Fred is definitely one such dog! Fred comes from a family of 30 plus dogs, which few of us, under the best of circumstances, could manage. But really hard if you don't have a stable living situation nor the resources to take care of so many dogs , especially one with special needs. Fred seems loved but skinny as a rail when his owner surrendered him, knowing perhaps his chances of finding a good life would be better thru the shelter. He would barely move when we first saw him cowering in a corner of his small kennel. We made friends with soft food and high end treats. When we carried this shivering, little pup to the yard, he tried to run and we realized his back legs were just dragging behind him. Yes, he is paralyzed in his back legs! The dedicated short-term foster family (we needed to get thi dog out of the shelter quickly as "he had no future"), ordered some wheels on Amazon and he is now very mobile. As he has built up confidence , he has emerged as a sweet, active fellow, enjoying his new found mobility. He is also now comfortable enough to get around without these wheels when needed. This resilient little one needs a forever home where he can continue to live a full life. Fred seems fine with other small dogs, but a bit fearful and not happy around big dogs. He's good with kids in the family, crate trained and uses the outdoors to do his business most of the time. He does need more potty-training/male belly bands when he's indoors, and would prefer a single level home .
