My Story

Happy? Playful? Handsome? Ghost checks all those boxes! He's a 65lb guy who sports a sleek fur coat of grey, white, and tan. Not only is Ghost stylish, but he is intelligent too-he does best when he has activities to keep him busy and a lot of exercise! He loves attention from his people, but still wants new or unfamiliar people to go slow with him during initial introductions. Ghost doesn't know his own size, and would benefit from a dedicated family willing to work with him on obedience and leash training. One of our volunteers took Ghost on an off-campus Power Hour and had this to say about him: "He was a bit excited before the departure, so I gave him commands to settle and he did. He was another dog with perfect leash manners, and I am sure he made me look good by walking so nicely next to me. We went to the Whole Foods area, admired flowers, took some photos and returned. We needed to pass by a dog whose owner did not retract a leash, but Ghost maintained the position on my side and left it' perfectly. He was so tired even though we took a water break, and could not wait to get back to the nicely chilled shelter building." We recommend Ghost's future family to reach out to a professional dog trainer to solidify his manners and obedience skills. Ghost is strong and can be jumpy. He would do best in a home with older kids and adults only. Ghost can be reactive when meeting other dogs and is selective about the dogs he socializes with. If you have another canine, we require a dog-to-dog introduction with Ghost at the shelter, to make sure he is a good fit for your pack prior to adoption. Come adopt friendly boy Ghost today! This pet is eligible for an Adoption Audition! What is an Adoption Audition? It's a 5-day, no-strings-attached, trial adoption period. You can take this pet home to try it out! Interested? Come to the shelter any time during open hours and talk to one of our Customer Care staff! Be sure to check the "shelter information" box on the listing to see if the pet is located at our Fairfax Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) or our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton). Then, come in during our open hours! Both of our locations are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt
