My Story

My name is Sammy. I am a 9 year old Labrador Retriever, and I need a home to live out my life in. I had a home, but my family moved and didn't want to take me with them. They said that they didn't want me to mess up their new house....I was so confused and hurt. I loved them and I didn't understand what I did so wrong that they didn't want me any more! So I went to live with a foster family. Then I was adopted by a family and I thought that this would be my forever home, but after a few months, they gave me back to the rescue. My heart was broken. Doesn't anyone want a very sweet, obedience trained older dog? I still like to fetch and go for walks! I still like to have my ears scratched and my head patted. Why doesn't anyone come for me? My foster home is nice, but I really want my own forever home! I love children, get along very politely with other dogs, and ignore little kitties. My foster mommy says that I am a good dog (uh, even though I like counter surfing!) and she likes the way I sort her waste baskets (well, maybe not so much?). But she says that I am really a good boy and very special and that anyone who adopts me is going to be very lucky. Do you have the right forever home for me? I'd really like to go home with you!

UPDATE: February 3, 2007. Sammy went to Rainbow Bridge this afternoon about 4:45. Sammy had cancer of the spleen. The sarcomas grew fast and Sammy was having seizures everyday. I held him as he left, telling him that I loved him. He had tears running down his face, and eyes that told me that it was time, he was ready. So with a breaking heart, I let my dear Sam go. There was never a mean bone in his body. Nothing but love, ever. He was a dignified gentleman, who was a sheer joy to have with me. We shared McDonald's chicken nuggets and fries this afternoon in the warm sun in the car. He ate the ice from my soft drink. Then he put his head against mine, and said it was time. I am the privileged one who received his love for the last several months. And as he left, I gave him a piece of my heart to take with him, that is his and his alone. Never will I forget this dog that completely stole my heart. Until I see you again in Heaven, Sammy, God bless you. I love you!
