My Story

Let me introduce you to Kevin Owen. Kevin Owen is an 11 year old Kerry Blue Terrier that was recently surrendered to Bloomfield Animal Control after being found in horrific condition, in an unenviable environment. He had a tumerous growth the size of a bag of marbles growing in his mouth, preventing him from closing his mouth or chewing. He had many bad teeth, and a growth on his hindquartes that prevented him from sitting. He was agreeable to a fault, he found no issue was anyone, man or beast. he would calmly stand for long periods of time, and just keep opening and trying to close his mouth. I immediately had him treated by a Veterinarian to find out if he was strong enough, and sound enough to undergo what would be significant surgeries. The Vet found him to be HW free, his kidneys and liver great, and his blood count looked okay. Our Companions Domestic Animal Sanctuary in Bloomfield stepped up to the plate and paid for the surgery, which Kevin Owen sailed through beautifully. The Vet had to pull 20 teeth, was able to successfully remove both the growth in the mouth and the growth on the backside, and expected a very happy full recovery. Kevin Owen is a great dog, and I know he will touch the hearts of many people who will read this. For the interest of being perfectly clear, I wish for Kevin Owen to go to a home with mature adults, and no small children. This dog spent all of his 11 years in the compnay of adults, who were often housebound and bedridden. It is not prudent to expose this dog to an enviornment and lifestyle that is completely and utterly foreign. I have exposed him to children in a quiet setting, and he of course was a perfect gentleman, the whole time, so I think visiting children or grandchildren would be appropriate interaction. Kevin Owen is recuperating at the Bloomfield Animal Shelter, is still eating baby food mixed with wet dog food, and is healing nicely. He does not like being without someone to stand next to, and will make an ideal companion for a retired individual or couple. He gets along with other dogs wonderfully, has no food issues, and will never be a chewer :) Please call me about setting up a time to visit Kevin, he would love somebody to take him home. UPDATE: 07/16/07 Kevin Owen's luck just keeps breaking the house. A very nice individual from a Kerry Rescue in a neighboring state drove down, fell in love, and handed over her heart to the gentleman named Kevin Owen. He, being a bit of a dandy, did not fawn all over her and show inappropriate affection too soon. He gave his sweetness in small doses, mixed with some of his prancing footwork. He appeared interested in the sibling he was gaining, and has reportedly settled into his new home like the high class guy he is. His veterinary treatment went fabulously, the growths that were removed were benign, and he is expected to have several long happy years in front of him with a family that loves and provides for him. Congratulations Kevin Owen, it sure is nice when things work out the way they should.
