My Story

Lucy is a big Lovable and Beautiful American Bulldog Mix. She is stocky with short little legs and a big wide hiney. Lucy ended up in a Los Angeles City shelter where she became best friends with some of the shelter volunteers. They knew Lucy was something special but still no one came to adopt her and finally Lucy's time was up and she had nowhere to go. Our rescue stepped in and took Lucy but with no foster we had to place her in boarding until we could find her the loving home she deserves. Last week we had Lucy at a dog park and there were kids, bicycles, balls and dogs everywhere. Lucy behaved so well that we were all proud of her. We also introduced her to another Male Bulldog and a Male German Shepherd. Lucy wanted nothing more than to play, even laying on her back and scooting around on the lawn. After being in boarding for so long grass is one of her favorite things, second most to cheeseburgers. Lucy is probably close to 2 years old. She is a good girl, very friendly and loving and we are teaching her some basic commands and to not jump on you. She rides like a champion in your car, sitting patiently looking out the window. but there is a catch. Lucy expects a stop at Burger King for a 99 cent double cheese burger, which she will take softly and gently from your hand is small little bits. After that she will lay her head on your lap for a nice comfy nap.Lucy was getting depressed in boarding so I have fostered her at my house for the last month and she is a very good dog. Like most Bully Breeds she does like to chew some things but I keep her supplied with bones and chews and she has done no damage to my yard or plants. Lucy needs a home with someone who understands the Bully Breeds and knows what sweet kids they are. She would love a male companion to play with. We have introduced her to other male dogs and she is great with them, just wanting to play. She has no issues, can be petted while eating or even take her bowl away from her while she is eating and she is fine.. She loves water and has her very own plastic pool from Walmart that she will lay in during hot weather. She also loves to run and slide on cardboard and will entertain herself for hours doing this...We remodeled our kitchen and had flattened cardboard boxes on the driveway and she though this was greatest thing! We laughed for hours at her antics. I have not tried to introduce her to female dogs, little dogs or cats, but I have my little dogs in another yard. Lucy can look at them thru the gate but mainly ignores them.If they bark at her first she will bark back but otherwise she acts like they aren't there. I would prefer that she be adopted by a family that has another large male that could be her companion and friend. Lucy is a wonderful girl and just wants to be loved. She will make an excellent pet for a lucky family. She is healthy, spayed, has all her shots and is micro-chipped....and ready to give you a big wet kiss along with her heart! If you think Lucy may fit in with your family please contact me for an adoption application. Please contact Pat Bonham at [email protected] or call 760-265-9595 for info on Lucy.
