My Story

Adoptions only in the St. Louis, Metro East IL area! On November 11, 2021 we were tagged on a post about a German Shepherd that had been living under an abandoned trailer. After talking with several residents, we found out he had been living under that trailer for well over a year. The post said there was a metal wire embedded in the dog’s neck. FAHR volunteers immediately rushed out to set a trap. After trapping him we could tell he had a severely embedded collar. The stench of the infection was unbelievable. We rushed him to an emergency center where they performed surgery to remove the collar. They also tested Mac for heartworms and he was found to be positive. Since then, Mac has recovered very well from the embedded collar and has gone through heartworm treatment. He has come such a a long way in the past few months. Mac is a three year old German Shepherd and weighs 62lbs. He is the sweetest boy but we can tell he hasn’t had much human interaction in his short life. He is a very shy and nervous kinda fella but also has a sweet and loving side. Mac loves attention and enjoys toys and romping around in the yard. He is dog/cat friendly and house/kennel trained. We do prefer Mac have a tall secure fenced yard. We also feel he will do best in a home with no small children. We feel the rambunctiousness of kids may be a bit much for him. We also feel Mac would do best in a home where he is not crated or left alone for long periods of time. Mac has anxiety and is currently on trazodone. He is a totally different dog when his anxiety is controlled by medication. Mac’s adoption fee is $150. This includes vaccinations, neuter, microchip, heartworm test and treatment, dewormer and maintaining heartworm prevention while in our care.
