About MESA: Gorgeous
Mesa is a poster child for microchipping ... this beauty was found with no
collar and when taken to the vet and scanned for the chip which would have sent
her home, there was no chip to be found! A good Samaritan took her in, but
her lifestyle (and miniature Schnauzers!) were no match for this big fuzzy
girl's size, energy and exuberance. She appeared to be well cared-for with
her thick, soft coat and dancing brown eyes, and her nails were neatly trimmed.
She will steal your heart with her perpetually-wagging tail, her big paws and
happy smile. Mesa weighs about 75 pounds and is about a year old. She
still has a puppyish look and demeanor. The woman who took her in said:
"Mesa is a beautiful girl, but I have two dogs and my schedule just isn't
puppy-compatible right now. In addition, we already have two dogs, neither
of whom is crazy about the new addition. We are gone a lot during the day
and having a big puppy running amuk :) is not an option for us. Mesa is a
sweet, good pup who just needs some training and guidance. Since she's
just a baby, she hasn't been taught not to chew, and thus requires supervision
in the house. She also needs to be crate-trained and housebroken. My
assumption is that wherever she lived before, she was probably kept outside.
She couldn't have been happy with that arrangement, though, as she is very
sociable and wants company when she's outside. She LOVES people and
definitely prefers being inside with "the pack"! While I heard that
Malamutes are not good with smaller animals (and I don't know how she is with
cats) I only heard her growl at one of my dogs one time. n fact, what she
wants is to play with them -- a lot! My dogs, who are both smaller and
older than she is, are annoyed by her efforts to engage them in play. She
made no attempt to escape my 6' privacy fence.
Mesa is sweet, loving, playful, and friendly. She
knows COME and SIT. She's ready, willing and able to learn how to be a great
house-dog, and will be a wonderful companion to the person ready to work with
her on that!
THE LATEST: Mesa has been sent to
foster, but our kennel advocate wanted to comment on her, saying "Mesa is a
great girl. She is friendly to every person she meets and gets along with
most dogs. She is young and active, but VERY trainable, as she clearly
wants to please!" Mesa is now in foster with Yeti,
who is her new best friend. Her foster mom says "I have been having a ball
with Yeti and Mesa. They love playing with each other and with toys.
Mesa is the dominant of the two. They've had only a couple of minor
disputes over the toys. Like most male/female relationships, Yeti backs
down and lets her have her way!"
Updates:
Check back soon or SEND AN EMAIL
to request more information and/or an adoption application. This
dog's adoption donation is $250. If you know how much it costs to give a new dog responsible vet care, you can easily see that this is quite a bargain!
This dog has had a complete health exam, has already been altered (spayed or
neutered), is microchipped, has tested negative for heartworm, has been kept on heartworm and flea preventative, is fully vaccinated and free of parasites.
What to do if you want to
adopt this dog: Just SEND AN EMAIL to request an adoption application!
We will review your application to determine if there is a good match
between your family and this dog. We may suggest another if we can offer a
better fit in terms of lifestyle, experience, other pets, etc. A vet check, reference checks, and a home visit will be conducted before an adoption can be considered for approval.
NOTE:
In the vast majority of cases, the dogs in our program are rescued from
shelters, and Northern Lights has no means by which to collect or verify a dog's
history. We work in concert with our veterinarians, and breed and age
estimates are based on a combination of professional input and our collective
experience. Our policy with information acquired while the dogs are in our
care is that of "full disclosure". It is our goal to ensure the
adopter has all available information to ensure the best possible match between
the dog and the adopting person or family. In some instances, because of
applicant interest, dogs are in our program for relatively brief periods of
time. If we have identified a temperament or health condition while
the dog is in our care and custody, every effort will be made to correct it prior to
adoption OR the adopter will be made aware of the
issue or condition prior to adoption. Northern Lights' screening process
is designed to select only adopters who are willing, and have the means, to
treat conditions which may occur after adoption, and adopter will be
contractually responsible for doing so.
NORTHERN
LIGHTS IS NOT A SHELTER. We are a rescue comprised of individuals who open their private homes to
foster dogs in need of a second chance.
