My Story

Thank you everyone for caring for Moose, it seems he touched many peoples hearts. He turns out to be just as described, he is very sweet and goofy, despite the obvious abuse he has suffered in life (his body looks like a 5 yr old junkyard dog with scars all over, but his teeth are proof that he is only 1.5 yrs old!) he has kept a loving, sweet, playful temperment that was not able to be beat out of him. He has found a Mastiff guardian that has fallen in love with him and Moose feels the same. His new guardian is wonderful and familiar with their breed, having raised one for the last 11 years. They are currently bonding and Moose is learning how to live in a house, which is very apparent he has never been in before. Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest in his welfare, we are very appreciative and grateful that Moose has found his forever home!

The shelter calls me Moose the Marshmellow. I have been on 2 death rows. This shelter took me because I was out of time at a larger shelter, but I have been here a long time and now am on their death row. I am sad about that cause I really like people and just want a home where I can have my own bed. I am about 2 or 3 years old, when I was young some not nice people cut my ears off all the way to my head it seems they didn't have experience doing it either because I am shocked when I look in the mirror...people said I was beautiful until they did a hatchet job on my head. But if I do say so myself, my personality more than make up for my looks..... I have been temperment tested and passed with flying colors. In fact they did everything they could to get under my skin...but I am a go with the flow kinda guy! I like cats and dogs and I am pretty sure I like kids. Sometimes they come into the shelter and bring me toys. I LOVE toys. I am just happy to be anywhere, but I don't want to be on death row again. Believe it or not, I am also heartworm negative! Won't you please give me another chance at life?

Please apply quickly, time IS of the essence.

All known information is listed here. If it is not listed here, then we do not know if this animal is good with cats or kids. Before sending an inquiry, please read the How To Adopt Page & FAQ pages of our website. http:www.almosthomerescue.net. This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending. For PUPPIES: SEE BELOW

This dog is Urgent because the shelter it is in is in Arkansas and is overfull, therefore dogs and puppies alike are on the euthanasia list. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us nasty letters about why we euthanize, this is not our choice, we do not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many of them as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!
