My Story

Thank you for choosing to adopt or foster and aid in the rescue efforts of RARE!  **ADOPTION APPLICATION REQUIRED via our website Rarerescue.org** Meet Patrick! Patrick was adopted a little over 3 years ago by a couple with another dog and a cat. Since then, they have separated and now the mom is moving across the country and is unable to take Patrick. He was jumped on by another dog in a dog park and it has caused back pain which as been managed with pain medication overseen by his Veterinarian. He is used to being spoiled and loved and is just wanting to find his furever home, at last. Patrick is a little snuggle nugget who has a special personality that most terrier people know well. He loves to be held and he sleeps under the covers in the bed. He also plays well with other dogs and cats. However, he is a resource guarder. If you are unfamiliar with the term "resource guarding", it means that he guards and becomes reactive towards a person or animal when they encroach upon his space while he is eating, playing with his toy or sitting/lying on a person, though often the reactivity is just towards other animals and not people. Therefore, his person or family would benefit from having experience with resource guarding. There needs to be some acceptance on the part of his adopters of what works best for Patrick and willingness to work with him.  Patrick doesn't chew anything but his toys. He normally does not have any accidents when he's given potty breaks every few hours during the day and he sleeps through the night.  Once you meet Patrick, you can't help but LOVE him! Will you be a Hero in Patrick's story? Visit our website/Click on Adopt to APPLY today!  RARErescue.org BASIC INFORMATION: Suggested Breed(s): Rat Terrier Gender: Male/Neutered Approx. STEPS TO ADOPT: Read the adoptable’s bio below, including their adoption fee Read  ADOPTION PROCESS page under the "Adopt" section Complete the  DOG ADOPTION APPLICATION (located on our website RARErescue.org) *Applications will be attended to before general inquiries. We may or may not have time to respond to general inquiries if you have not submitted an application. We understand that it is important to you to find the right fit for your family. We feel the same way! The application is important and necessary for this reason.  All of our Adoptables are: *spayed/neutered *up to date on vaccines *heartworm tested if six months or older (and kept on heartworm preventative and treated for heartworms if positive when entering our program) *microchipped prior to adoption PLEASE NOTE: We are a non-profit organization without municipal or government funding. Veterinary/Medical expenses are constant for an animal rescue. Our adoption fees not only help to provide vetting and care for the animal being adopted, but they also help to cover heartworm treatments and other treatable ailments that many animals, that would otherwise be euthanized, need in order to be made available for adoption. Please understand that adopting an animal is a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to that animal and there will be veterinary expenses throughout their life that can often cost several hundreds, if not thousands of dollars (without pet insurance), especially without annual checkups and preventative care.  As a potential family for this pet you are responsible for their safety and that includes keeping them on your property. ***If you are not in the middle Tennessee area, transport can potentially be arranged to approved homes, depending on distance and local adaptability. We normally do not allow adoptions outside of 1.5 hours driving distance. Thank you for choosing to adopt, foster, or aid in the rescue efforts of RARE!
