Approximate age: Two (2) years old. Pedro weighs 15 pounds.
Personality: Pedro is a special needs dog. He did not have a good start at life - trapped in a cage, no human interaction, only used for breeding. He is somewhat apprehensive of humans and will take some time to learn that people are not bad. It must be noted that Pedro does NOT have one aggressive bone in his body.
Dogs like Pedro can be rehabilitated, but it takes time and patience. They can and do come around.
Pedro LOVES to play with other dogs.
In the home, Pedro is very quiet and likes to stay in his crate or on a dog bed in the bedroom. However, lately he is venturing out to sniff around and see what the rest of the "pack" in his foster home is doing (including the humans).
Forever home: Pedro is absolutely excellent with other small/medium sized dogs. He loves to play, run and romp around. He turns into a different dog when outside in the presence of other dogs. It would be wonderful if Pedro went to a home where another small or medium playful, energetic dog was living. Pedro would make such an excellent little playmate. However, Pedro is going to need a very special dog-savvy home that will understand he will take time to come around and that he may never be a "normal" dog. A quieter home (no children under the age of 12 because Pedro still startles very easily) with an understanding person/couple who are going to be willing to work with him daily to overcome his fears. Dogs like this can be extra work, but they can/do eventually come around - it just takes time, patience, love, and understanding. His new home will have to have a physical fence as well - no exceptions.

We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check
www.waggintailsdogrescue.org for the dates of our next adoption events. With few exceptions, we show our adoptable animals on Saturdays from 12pm - 3pm at PetSmart in Canton (the northwest corner of Ford Rd and Haggerty Rd) or the Northville PetSmart on Haggerty Road (between 6 & 7 Mile Roads). Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).
Please be kind to our volunteers who have made rescue a second job that they do in their spare time after coming home from full-time jobs. E-mail inquiries will be answered much more quickly than phone inquiries; our phone number is a voice mailbox only.
Thank you for your support of rescue and your interest in a rescue dog!
