My Story

The world can be a cruel place for animals and humans alike. One of the reasons we love rescue dogs is not only because of their resiliency but also their incredible ability to love unconditionally despite what they've suffered at the hands of humans. Phoebe is a gorgeous, petite red-coated Pit Bull & Pointer mix forgotten by the world. She is around 1 year old, petite and striking with her large pointy ears, soulful eyes, and beautiful red coat. If you were drawn to this profile by Phoebe's beautiful looks, then know that her short life hasn't been easy. This dog deserves a second chance and needs a special home that can give that to her. If you've come this far, we ask you to please read her story and share if you can't adopt. We know that there's someone out there for Phoebe. Phoebe was forgotten by her owners. She was barely a year old when she was found on the streets of Houston, Texas, and was late-term pregnant. She had been foraging the streets for weeks, desperately surviving on garbage and scraps to sustain the lives of her unborn puppies. For weeks, residents ignored her suffering and walked past her. "Who's dog is this?" "That is no one's dog. Take her," neighbors would remark. An animal advocate arranged a plan to trap Phoebe to at least get her off of the streets before giving birth to her puppies. Phoebe was so hungry that she walked straight into an animal trap. Due to the horrific amount of stray dogs on the streets of Texas, her rescuer determined it was safest for Phoebe to go to the local high-kill shelter. After all, a death by humane euthanasia is often kinder than death on the streets. Sadly, Phoebe was late-term spay aborted just hours before giving birth. Then, within just a few day days, Phoebe ended up on the euthanasia list herself. Her time was almost out. Thankfully, someone cared enough to advocate for Phoebe, saving her from death row. Phoebe was extremely broken down after losing her puppies, so she went to a temporary boarding facility until a foster could be secured. Phoebe was allowed to decompress in her foster home, and we learned so much about this beautiful girl in her short time with us. In just a few days, we learned that Phoebe is an energetic and goofy girl. She adores long walks and being in nature. She is especially happy to be in the grass. She loves the long grass and will dive into the brush and roll around. The grass provides Phoebe with enrichment and unmatched joy that surprised us! She also loves long walks but has a high drive for squirrels and birds, watching them with laser focus and pointing with her paw. Phoebe carefully chooses who she allows to keep her company but thrives with laid-back and relaxed dogs that match her energy. She gets overwhelmed with large groups of energetic dogs and prefers to meet other pups individually. It takes her a little time to get comfortable before engaging in play. Phoebe is much more attached to humans than other dogs but could live peacefully in a home with a laid-back dog if she has a yard to roam and roll in! Phoebe is impeccably kennel trained, house trained, gentle on toys, and loves to lounge in her dog bed or on the sofa. She is exceptional with people and children but is very food-motivated and still learning to take treats gently. Phoebe would be the perfect dog for the breed enthusiast who wants a genuine 1-on-1 connection with a highly trainable, intelligent, and affectionate dog. Once Phoebe is comfortable, her goofy side comes out, and she becomes a puddle of love who constantly asks for belly rubs. Phoebe is spayed, heartworm-negative, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. She needs a home dedicated to sharing their life with her, that will be repaid with unconditional love, loyalty, and a bond that will last a lifetime.
