My Story

UPDATE -- *****ADOPTION FEE REDUCED****** 6/7/06 - GREAT NEWS.. a special vet agreed to do his dental for a greatly reduced fee and flew in from from another state just for this surgery. He has now had his surgery as well as the bone grafts and fill and hopefully is on the road to recovery. His jaw was cracked while doing the surgery due to the deeply embedded canines and the deterioration and bone rot that had occurred but he is all stitched up now and finally should be on the permanent road to recovery. 5/30/06 - There has been another setback for Shadow. Unfortunately the two lower canines that were trying to save have abcessed and must be removed. We have two estimates that are near $2000 each - very expensive and not covered by rescue. His jaw will require specialty surgery because if the teeth aren't removed properly the jaw will break and this will be a death sentance for this loving little guy. If anyone wants to donate to assist with his care, please do so now!!!!

IGCA Rescue - Shadow C/O Serena Galloway 3111 N. Custer Ave Loveland Colorado 80538

We are exhausting all options to find care that is affordable so we can get him treated. He is on heavy antibiotics and pain killers to keep him comfortable while we try to figure out what we can do.

5/17/06 - Shadow is doing fantastic now that he has had nearly every tooth removed. His mouth was so infected that removing the teeth really allowed the infections to drain and now he is on the mend. He will need a special home that is willing to keep his lower canines clean by rinsing them with a saline solution so that they don't abcess. They can't remove these two teeth without breaking his jaw so we are hoping that there is a special home out there that will find and love this little guy as much as he deserves to be loved.

April 26 06 - one more setback for this wonderful boy. His teeth were so severely neglected before coming into rescue that he had to have several pulled, well the majority of the teeth he now has are abcessing due to the improper care prior to coming to rescue. We have attempted everything to save as many as possible but it now is clear he is going to have to the majority of his teeth removed and for the incisors that remain, a saline solution will have to be used to clean them daily, taking them out could compromise an already weak jaw. Unfortunately the cost of this is enormous and we are doing everything in our power to save him from being euthanized, any donations are appreciated to assist with his care. He is considered a special needs placement and needs a home that will be able to understand him. March 06 - Unfortunately Shadow's adoption fell through because the landlord decided that the tenant could not have pets. She was heartbroken and he was brought back into rescue. He is such a wonderful boy and needs so much to find a home, it was heartbreaking to us as well.

Shadow is an owner turn in - we believe he is 8-9 years old (the owner told us different but the vet feels he is only 8-9 years old), after many years of devotion he was turned over to rescue.

This is a wonderful dog, he has an awesome personality, loves to play with the other dogs and desperately tries to keep up with the "young wippersnappers". He loves getting pets and really is eager to please his family. He loves being scratched by the ears and eats up any attention that he is able to receive.

He had a dental upon arrival and lost some of his front teeth but was able to keep most, he eats just fine without all the front ones but sometimes he sticks out his tongue just a little bit. He is also on a diet to slim him down and is already showing great progress on that, like I said, he is very eager to please. He potties outside with no problems. He has had a leg break that was not properly set in the past causing him to have a crooked front leg but he gets around just fine.

He is very friendly and really wants human attention, he is content just to sit next to you in while you do what you do and really gets along well with other dogs. He has learned the doggie door in a matter of minutes.

Shadow is looking for a home that is willing to let him enjoy his final years with the care and love that he deserves giving him attention that he really needs.
