Arrival story: : Sophie was originally brought into a rural shelter by a woman claiming she was a stray. She later admitted that the dog belonged to her friend who no longer wanted Sophie. Luckily, we pulled her the same day she came in and immediately sought medical attention for her eye condition.
Approximate age / weight: 5 months old and 29lbs. We're unsure of her breed mix but it's possible she has Bassett Hound mixed in due to her elongated body shape and shorter legs. We're unsure of what Sophie's adult weight will be.
Personality:Sophie is a doll. Just look at those wrinkles on her face! She caught the eye of a volunteer and stole her heart. Poor Sophie suffers from a condition common in certain breeds, called Cherry Eye. The red “bumps” in her eyes are swollen glands and Waggin Tails is treating her for this condition. In spite of the Cherry Eye and being abandoned, Sophie is a remarkable, bubbly little girl who loves to give and receive affection. Her second day in her temporary foster home, she tore around the yard with jowls flapping and entertained her foster mom for several minutes. How can you resist that face? She is great in her crate now and hasn’t had an accident in her crate in days, and she sleeps through the night. Sophie has been fine with all the dogs and didn’t react much to the resident cat. Sophie doesn’t bark much and hasn’t had an accident in the house, so she may already be housetrained. Sophie was spayed recently and is healing, so we can’t assess her energy level just yet. We will update the profile as we learn more.
Forever home: Sophie seems to get along with all the dogs at her temporary foster home, so we think she will do well with another dog. She will likely be fine with cats, too. We do not yet know if a fence is necessary and will post updates as we learn more.

Pre-Adoption Application: To be considered for a dog, it is best to submit a pre-adoption application. The Pre-Adoption Application can be downloaded from our website - http://www.waggintailsdogrescue.org/adoptionprocess.html. Just complete the application and email it back to [email protected]
Waggin' Tails Adoption Information: Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue has a standard adoption fee of $175 for adult dogs. Different adoption fees apply for older dogs, small breeds and puppies - $100 for senior dogs (9 years +), $275 for small breed dogs and $200 for puppies plus a $50 deposit which is returned upon proof of spay/neuter at six months of age.
Our adoption process includes an application, vet reference checks, and a home visit.
We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check www.waggintailsdogrescue.org for the dates of our next adoption events. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar for the latest information. Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).
Please be kind to our volunteers who have made rescue a second job that they do in their spare time after coming home from full-time jobs. E-mail inquiries will be answered much more quickly than phone inquiries; our phone number is a voice mailbox only.
Thank you for your support of rescue and your interest in a rescue dog!
