My Story

CURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Confident Beginner Storm is a 2013 grade mare who 14.1 hands tall and weighs 870 lbs. Storm is a very intelligent and curious girl. Her gentle nature makes her a wonderful companion for both people and other equines. She is treat motivated and a quick learner, making her a great candidate to learn tricks in the future. In the pasture, Storm is quiet and needs to be turned out with the less dominant horses or ponies. Storm came to us in 2021 with extremely overgrown hooves and a history of laminitis. With corrective trimming, her hooves are improving. However, Storm still trots with a gait abnormality, this is most likely learned behavior from living with long hooves for an extended period of time. Storm is an extremely easy keeper and prone to laminitis so she will need a dry lot with no access to grass. To keep Storm healthy, she will need to be on a strict low starch grain with no added sweet filling and a low quality grass mix hay. Storm is currently on Thyroid medication and it seems to be helping her. Storm will stand to be groomed and will stand to be tacked if her girth is tightened slowly. Under saddle Storm is still a little green and learning but she is safe. She has been ridden in the arena, western, english and bareback, at a walk and trot. Storm is not conditioned enough to work on cantering and she is generally more whoa than go. Storm will never be an athlete but she would make a wonderful companion and trail horse with more work. Storm would be a good match for someone wanting a nice mare to work with and ride around the farm.
